Coonley Playhouse II

This beautiful award has been adapted from a Frank Lloyd Wright design for The Avery Coonley Playhouse in Riverside, Illinois. Built in 1912, Avery Coonley commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to build the Playhouse for his wife, Queene Ferry, after Wright built the main residence for the couple. Ferry had already built one smaller progressive school and was very interested in the education of children. The Playhouse features one of Wright’s most playful art glass window designs with asymmetrical geometric designs and suggestions of flags, balloons, and confetti. The brightly colored windows bring to mind a parade that Wright referred to as a “kinder symphony.” Since the Playhouse was intended for children’s education and performances, this fun theme was entirely appropriate.

Each award is branded with the Frank Lloyd Wright Collection copyright, and a portion of the sale is being donated to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation on behalf of your purchase to ensure the continuity of this spirit. This two-toned gift box features blue and silver laminates highlighted by a square silver button on top. The telescoping lid covers all but the very bottom, exposing a silver band for a designer look and snug fit. The interior is lined with luxurious blue satin. Aesthetically pleasing and extremely sturdy, these boxes will surely be reused by their recipients. Positive comments guaranteed!
